What If?

SPIRITUALITY

Sunday Sermon: July 11th, 2021

Blessings to you all on this beautiful Sunday. I hope that our connection finds you daydreaming. If it does not, I pray you will be lost in an expansive daydream for a while.

What if you could work every day doing something you loved to do?

What if what I was taught about my history was incomplete and there is so much more?

What if I tackled making bread and I mastered it?

What if all the people in jail for marijuana offenses were set free?

What if you just told that person how you REALLY feel?

What if you went off those meds and you did fine?

What if we all lived in a barter-reciprocity economy?

What if we didn’t wait for a crisis to change?

What if there were infinite paths to where you were going?

Change. Evolution. Growth. It all starts with the human brain’s capacity to imagine something other. We are the only species (as far as we know, but what if?) that has the power of imagination. We can see things in our minds that currently don’t exist in our lives. Our imaginations are our most agile tools, our strongest weapons and our primary methodology of survival.

Yet, many of us are deeply entrenched in conformity and structure. We are fed on a steady diet of fear to keep us stagnant and controllable. Our creative self is overworked, tired and stressed out. Innovation has become a slow trickle precisely at the time what we need it to be a raging river. What we need from every human at this very moment in time is to unleash their mind and start letting it play with the ‘What Ifs?’

Fight for your creative space. Take some time every day to daydream about what life would look like if it were different. Feel the exhilarating fear of that process and do it anyway. Then keep doing it. Write a new narrative. Tinker in the shop. Do something you told yourself wasn’t in your capacity. See a problem from a different angle. Entertain your imagination.

Because nothing can live unless it is born, and nothing can be born unless it is conceived, and nothing can be conceived without the belief in a free mind.

What if you unleashed yourself?
