Why Helping Society Will Make You Happy!

Have you ever asked yourself what your purpose is? Have you ever asked yourself what the meaning of life is? Are you this one person of many trying to find yourself and have no idea who you really are and what you really want? Could it be that deep down you are not really satisfied with your life, you feel that something is still missing?

I myself have asked those questions my whole life. As an analytical person being interested in philosophy, I would say that this way of thinking defines me who I am today. I had some pretty bad times, I suffered clinical depressions almost resulting in suicide, just because I was struggling so hard with those questions and never found an answer. But now I fought my way through and I found answers which helped me to see the world with a whole different pair of glasses. This knowledge changed my whole life and I created a journey to achieve true happiness. I want to share this knowledge or theory with you, so it might help people who are in the same spot that I was in before.

Why is it so hard to love yourself? — at least for me, it was…It’s so hard to love yourself, because you don’t even know yourself! How can you love someone you don’t know? And knowing yourself means that you know what you really want. I want to help you to find yourself, to find your purpose by showing you what the meaning of life is — by showing you what you really want! And you don’t want money at long last trust me on that. If you are aiming for money as a goal, you already live in an illusion created by society. Money is a tool for getting what you want. Imagine Tom Hanks in “Castaway” being alone on the island and he’s finding 1 Mio. Dollars. Would that make him happy or bring any value to him? Exactly…

I believe that the journey to self-achievement is true happiness. Every step you take towards your goal gives you a small portion of happiness until you reach your goal and feel fulfilled. There are so many ways in achieving your true goal, and it’s your own decision which way you take. The freedom of choice gives you the feeling of being your own master. It’s your own responsibility to make the right choices. By knowing what you really want, the choices you make will come in easier as you think.

A lot of people are not living their own life — instead, they live someone else’s! They are being told what to do, they obey and complain at home how much they hate their job and how much of an ass their boss is.

“But the pay is good…”

Let me show you a way to find what you really want. And if you are one of those “Billions and Billions” (insert Donald Trump voice here — what a fool…) of people who are already living in this money striven illusion, then I want to clear things out for you and show you what is truly important in life.

Before I dive into details on what the missing piece for happiness is, it is crucial to know about the basic needs of human kind. Let’s talk about the general concept of human needs by Maslow. (…Ohh Maslow, what a philosophical masterpiece!)

This pyramid shows what we need in order to survive on this planet and what we crave psychologically. Your basic needs start at the bottom. Now imagine this pyramid is an empty container and you have to fill it up to be happy — the more you fill it, the happier you get. Your cravings tell you to fill it up the way we see above starting at the bottom layer — layer for layer. Once you filled one layer, you crave for the next. In our developed society the majority lives on a happiness level which is round about that third — Belongingness and love needs.

If you have food, water, warmth and rest, the next thing you need is safetyshelter (home). You need a safe place to live otherwise your life is in danger. Once you have shelter and food, the next thing you crave is social networking. You want to share your thoughts and interests, make friends, build relationships. You want to connect with other people!

So yeah, what is money? I guess you get it now…it’s a fucking tool! You need money to get food, to buy yourself a decent house, maybe to throw some fancy parties to connect with people. You use your money to get to your basic needs. But if you aim just for money and not knowing what it’s for… oh boy! Those thoughts and resulting actions are creating the world we live in — Capitalism, unnecessary competition, inequality which leads to different miseries and catastrophic things… You know the picture… But yeah, I don’t want to focus that much on the negative side of this world. I rather focus on the opportunity to strengthen the good. So let’s get back to your needs and the struggle of being happy.

It’s the top triangle of two layers — esteem-needs and self-actualization — the tip of the iceberg. We want to fill that pyramid all the way to the top and this last part is the most interesting part of human needs, because this part can’t be generalized… this part is about you and your individuality.

We all know that you have a “Soul” or individual personality. This individuality makes you special and nobody can take it from you — not even you can. It would just be a shame to not use your talents. Yet in a lot of cases society tries to oppress your personality, they try to change you by telling you what to do — even though it makes no sense to you…You don’t want that — you want freedom and live the life you want!

As we learned before — If you want to be happy, you really need to fill up your pyramid! You can only fill up your pyramid with a goal! So start thinking about what you want to achieve! Set your own goals. Set up realistic goals and work on it to achieve these goals. You want to become a better self? Learn skills you think is worth putting effort in. The passion, willpower and commitment you put into achieving those specific goals will create a process. That process is the journey I was talking about. That journey already makes you happier knowing that you are heading somewhere. People will admire you for that. You are clearly someone who set goals and put sweat and tears in your own work to achieve your dream. The outcome? — You receive acknowledgement! You’ll get motivated to keep going. And by reaching your goal, you get to the top — self-achievement! And there is nothing greater than having a dream come true.

Tip of The Iceberg

The goals can differ from person to person. Some prefer to work on themselves. Some are already satisfied with them self and want to provide value to society — some a little less, some a little more. Providing value to society is the most acknowledged and in my opinion the most honorable. This is why the most successful and honorable people are not those who aim for money. They are successful because they saw an opportunity to create great value for society — most likely by solving problems we have in the world. If you still don’t know what to do in your work life:

The outcome of this mindset? — You figure out what kind of skills you want to master. It is your talent in which you’re most likely passionate about. And believe me, there are tons of ways to learn and master your talents and there are also tons of ways to bring value to society which is willing to pay and acknowledge you for that. You just need to believe in yourself and don’t let yourself be oppressed by society.

If you started out like this: “I need a job to get a lot of money… So let’s see what kind of job pays the best. I am following a career path based on the salary”… WROOOONG! This mindset can lead to this frequently heard sentence “I hate my job, why am I doing this… Well, at least the pay is good. But I kind of don’t feel so fulfilled nor really happy… But I guess that’s how the world works.” And you keep living your life like that… you are stuck… Your whole life is just a 7 out of 10. The tip of the iceberg is missing!

You might say to yourself: “But I already put 4 years of college into my degree. Now I want to do something else and have to study a whole new subject? It’s too time consuming” — I’ve been there… I understand. But luckily we have the internet, our friend in need. You don’t have to go to university to learn what you really want to learn. Most of the taught lessons are not even important for what you really need — just a waste of time, seriously. The internet provides a lot of methods, insightful thoughts of bloggers and endless facts and information. The education system is just outdated…

(Start googling that and begin your journey! Believe it or not, but you can learn almost any skill if you invest about 20 hours of effective learning.)

I know, companies look for your profession and so on, which is a fucked up system. The educational system sucks and so many job opportunities are based on this stupid system*. If you are really willing to follow your path of mastery and true happiness, you’ll find a way passed that.

Knowing how the pyramid is build, it is pretty easy to tell where you can provide value to society. Just fill the pyramid for others! Filling other people’s pyramid will fill your your own iceberg! Help other people to achieve happiness by helping them to fill their own. Help hungry people by providing food. Give homeless people shelter. Give people the opportunity to connect. Entertain people with your special skills. You see where I am going? There are plenty of opportunities to create value for society. Just master your skills and find a way to help others. So we come to an end with a very simple conclusion: Helping society will make you happy!
