Let It Go

I will share with you my favorite piece from my book. It took me so long to be at this stage of maturity and the ability to move on and forgive.

Holding on to pain doesn’t fix anything, replaying the past over and over again doesn’t change it. Wishing things were different doesn’t make it so. In some cases, especially when it comes to the past, all you can do is accept whatever it is you’re holding on to and then let it go. That’s how everything changes. You must let go of what is hurting you, even if it feels almost impossible. Deciding to hold on to the past will prevent you from creating a solid sense of self. A self isn’t defined by your past but rather by who you want to be. Oddly enough, painful feelings can be comfortable, especially if they’re all you know. Some people have trouble letting go of their pain because they think those feelings are part of their identity. In some ways, they may not know who they are without their pain. This makes it impossible for them to let go.

Acceptance
The first step we should take is acknowledging the situation instead of denying it. It’s only harder for us to let things go when we convince ourselves that tomorrow will be different and things will be back to normal again. Denying it will only lead us to false claims, which will cost more pain and disappointment from making our own scenarios, and when things get worse, there is no one to blame but yourself. The most important part is that we have to be more open-minded. We have to be mature enough to accept the fact that relationships are not mostly about butterflies, kisses, and hugs. Sometimes in life, we have to face reality and accept that no matter how happy, good or perfect it was. “Break-ups” are an inevitable event in our life; there is nothing we can do about it but accept it.

Forgive
Don’t you feel stuck in the same scenario when you keep bringing up the past?. When you keep overthinking the reasons for what went wrong. Does it make you feel suffocated when you regularly think of someone who becomes toxic in your life? When you keep playing it repeatedly in your head, does it really help you to forget? Forgive even if they never asked for it, forgive them not because you want to make them to feel better but forgive them because you are letting them go officially from your life. Because forgiving them means what they did no longer lingers in your head and no longer affects you. Forgive them because you are freeing all the negative thoughts and finally moving on with your life.

Let it go.
After accepting and forgiving, I think it is now easier to let things go. However, there might be some pain leftover, but HEY! it is better than going back to step one all over again, right? I think at this point, the best part you can do is probably focus on yourself. Use it as your motivation to feel better yourself. Go to the gym, buy the dress you want, go socialize, go on a vacation with family or friends, watch a movie, laugh often, meet new people, and Most importantly, make new happy memories.
