Bootstrap 5

Everything you need to know on the newly released Bootstrap 5.

Bootstrap released a new beta version 5.0.0-alpha1 on 17th June 2020. It comes with a variety of new features and updates. We will look at them one by one. It is not recommended to use them in production as things might change quickly. So here are the main updates to look forward to:

Bootstrap 5 comes with a new Icon to give it a fresh feeling.

Bootstrap have now dropped the support for IE. So if you have to use bootstrap on IE, you’ll be limited to v4 of Bootstrap. It has been done keeping in mind to use css custom properties and other new features. We’ll learn more about it below.

The point on dropping support for IE makes more sense because now Boostrap has a lot root variables compared to v4, now we can use root variables in layouts.

One Example would be the .table

Bootstrap has redesigned all there form controls, instead of the default checkboxes and radios, we are now provided with custom styles:

By far this is the most significant update that I am excited about. They have introduced the Utility API. Now writing global style can be somewhat easier with bootstrap. Here is an example

These are from bootstrap files. You can overwrite these on your custom files as well. But let me show you what you can do with these things:
