Twitter Is Testing A New Twitter Lite App For Regions With Poor Internet Connection

Twitter wants to make it easier to access their social media site from places where internet connection is slow. Therefore they are testing out a Twitter Lite app which will consume less data than the original Twitter app. Facebook also has a Facebook-lite app which brought a significant number of new users.

The Twitter lite app will have all the main features of the standard Twitter app. Like the timeline, massage and notification. In addition to that, you will also have the ability to choose which pictures or videos you want to download. They already rolled out the beta version in the Philippines and it will run on android 5.0 or above. Twitter said that it is in the experiment process and they will think if it is good for the international market.

“The test of the Twitter Lite app in the Google Play Store in the Philippines is another opportunity to increase the availability of Twitter in this market,” Twitter said. “The Philippines market has slow mobile networks and expensive data plans, while mobile devices with limited storage are still very popular there. Twitter Lite helps to overcome these barriers to use for Twitter in the Philippines.”

Twitter announced earlier this year that they are planning a new Twitter lite web mode. The addition of an Android app makes it much more credible.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said,

This new move will ensure the user growth of Twitter in rural areas around the world. Facebook already has seen a huge benefit from their programme. Maybe a couple of months more before they launch the new app on the international market.
