The Movie and the Music

The two men below have led a life of wrong actions. These cannot be undone nor justified by any means, therefore, their art becomes a reflection of themselves in which the life of the creator and the art cannot be separated. The idea of who creates such art is atrocious, and should not be acquitted of what they’ve done.

Me too, the foundation that started it all, the first spark of the movement. The tweet that started the wildfire. Both of these founded on the concept of speaking out and seeking justice for wrongdoers. For oppressors. For seducers. The #MeToo movement that brought many women to share their experiences in the workplace on sexual misconduct — harassment through comments, actions or even physical abuses referencing sexual acts. The match to start the fire were the allegations made against Harvey Weinstein, an American film producer. From there, a plethora of stories came up, and names started dropping, including other media “influencers” like XXXTentacion, a troubled youth who had a bad habit of running in with the wrong side of the law.

The first thing to know is that Weinstein wasn’t as widely recognized as the stars in his movies were, however, as soon as they spoke out against him, his name blew up. He was only known for the movies he produced, but since he didn’t play the role of an actor, his face wasn’t exactly attached to his art. Though the movies he produced were Oscar-worthy, his actions are not seen as such, hence the removal of his name and his company from many major contracts and accolades, which are all fair given the allegations.

Weinstein’s reputation has been tainted,and with good reason. His actions have spoken louder than he has in reference to the multitude of allegations against him and have rendered him a dishonorable and despicable being.

Just as Weinstein had a very arduous ordeal with the law and the #MeToo movement, Jahseh Onfroy, better known as XXXTentacion, also had a life of dealing with the law. Born and raised in Broward County, Florida, he encountered a lot of trouble at a very early age, which eventually led to his death in June of 2018.

XXXTentacion was a SoundCloud rapper — a term used for an individual whose music appeared on the platform and eventually blew up through those digital streamings, like Ski Mask the Slump God and Lil Pump. The young man rose to fame from the dark songs he released, which later brought on a cult-like following from his listeners. However, before being revered almost at the level of 2pac or The Notorious B.I.G., X, as many called him, had led a life of abusive relationships and criminal behaviours.

XXXTentacion had a relationship in which he physically, emotionally and verbally abused of his partner. In 2016, he was charged with “aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and witness tampering.” All of these came after his partner at the time escaped from a ‘safehouse’ and contacted the police with her eye still swollen from the abuse on XXXTentacion’s behalf.

XXXTentacion’s life of abusive behaviors and accolades all ended on June 18, 2018. He was shot dead in his vehicle. though he inspired so many people to pursue their dreams and reach to the music for help,it eventually became his downfall in the end. the young man’s past is tied to his strange showing of art, the darkest and most horrific: his abuse.
