As we live the Christian life we receive numerous medicines: the Eucharist, Confession, prayer, sermons, the Scriptures, the teachings of Christ, liturgy, fasting, and the teaching of the saints. All of these things mediate to us the Resurrection Life of Christ.
As Christ’s Resurrection Life is a medicine, then it it is possible for us to stop taking the medicine. If we stop taking the medicine by no longer partaking in the Eucharist; or not going to Confession; or not praying or taking part in the prayer of others; or not showing up for or paying attention to sermons; by not reading or listening to the Scriptures; by refusing to obey the teachings of Christ; by not attending liturgy; by not fasting; or not taking into consideration the guidance of the saints who came before us; then we are not taking our medicine.
As we are not taking our medicine, then we render the grace of God in us inactive, and we start going backwards spiritually.
If we don’t return to God, then we shall die with this sickness, that will go unhealed. This sickness we shall take into the next world, and the sickness will be so prevalent that we shall be unable to bear the glory of Jesus Christ, and that will be our Hell.
I say, therefore, that it is possible to lose salvation.
