About Me

Upon starting secondary school I discovered I had an aptitude for science and maths, so I focused on these in during my GCSEs and A-levels. I did both of those at The Crypt School, Gloucester. My planned A-levels were Computer Science (CS), Chemistry, Physics and Maths but when we started in September CS was cancelled and instead we were made to do ICT (i.e. excel, databases); well, that scrapped my idea of learning how to code and investigate the hardware side of things. So I focused on science went on to complete a Msci and PhD in chemistry at the University of Birmingham. (That bring us until now).

I chose to apply for this bootcamp after seeing it advertised on Facebook by a friend of mine and didn’t expect it go anywhere. At the time I was finishing my PhD and applying for a number of different types of jobs, not getting very far and was quite disillusioned with the job hunt. Prior to applying I had been been playing around with an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi trying to learn some coding skills as I had always wanted to do more with computers and thought that being able to code would help with jobs in the future. So why this bootcamp? There are 4 main reasons choosing this bootcamp:-

Technology is advancing at an extraordinary pace and before being invited to this course I always thought I would take a passive role and watch it roll out; but being part of the course and learning these skills I have a chance of getting involved and helping to shaping emerging technology (I realise this is probably a pipe dream, but having the skills makes it one step closer).

I’m torn with my plans and I think I will narrow down my options once I have started and find out what I want/enjoy but here are my thoughts before starting/ a lot of research.
